The push to be "Earth Friendly" has never been stronger. It is at the forefront of everyone's mind because the quality of our environment and our quality of life depend on it. That's why Avonlea has applied all of our resources, experience and knowledge to become a leader in sustainable building.
We've raised the bar in our earth-friendly building practices by applying Energy Star standards to every single home we build. Every Avonlea home has an Energy Star rating of at least 80. Some of the Energy Star features of our homes inlude:
- R50 attic insulation
- R14 basement wall insulation
- 6" spray foam header
- 92.5-98% AFUE (annual fuel utilization effeciency) with ECM (electronically commutated motor)
- 94% condensing instantanious water heater
- Energy Star windows throughout
- 100% of lighting is Energy Star
- all appliances are Energy Star
In Alberta, when you purchase a new home that has an Energy Star rating of 80 or more, you are eligible for one of the following rebates:
- $1500 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 80
- $3000 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 82
- $10,000 for new homes that meet or exceed EnerGuide 86

In addition to this rebate, if you paid CMHC fees for your new home financing on a new home with an EnerGuide rating of 80 or more, you are also eligible for a 10% mortgage loan insurance premium refund. The average refund is $1500. Learm more about CMHC mortgage loan insurance refunds here.
